I couldn’t imagine leaving my house to go to work during the pandemic. Luckily, I’ve been working from home for a few years now. If I wasn’t, for sure I would be looking for ways to make money from home.
Staying at home is one of the most effective ways to stay safe during a pandemic. Due to lockdown orders and the safety of their employees, many businesses have established work from home procedures. Unfortunately, not every employer provides this option.
If you want to avoid public spaces but still need to earn a living, there are alternatives. Here are 17 ways to make money from home during a pandemic.
1. Look For Freelance Data Entry Gigs
Plenty of businesses continue to operate during a pandemic, ensuring that there is plenty of data entry work available. Use online job markets to look for data entry gigs.
Most online data entry jobs only pay a few dollars per hour, as you are competing with workers in countries with lower living costs. While you may not completely replace your day job, you can make a decent income from home.
Online data entry jobs often consist of repetitive tasks, such as copying and pasting information from websites to a spreadsheet. The repetitive nature of the work makes it easy to complete while listening to music in the background or catching up on a TV show.
2. Become A Freelance Writer
If data entry is too monotonous, try freelance writing. Online job marketplaces offer thousands of writing opportunities for people of all skill levels. You may only get paid about a penny per word to start, but freelance writing remains a legitimate way to make money online.
When you first start looking for jobs, avoid taking on too much work. If you try to write too much, you are more likely to get burnt out, miss deadlines, and give up.
Start with a single article for a client. As you complete more articles, you get a better sense of how much you can write during the day.
3. Sell Your Skills On An Online Job Market
Data entry and writing are not the only online jobs. Upwork, 99designs, Guru, Fiverr, and other online job markets provide freelance gigs in a wide range of categories. However, most of the job categories require technical skills.
Graphic design, website creation, mobile app development, search engine optimization, social media marketing, translations, and transcriptions are some of the most popular online jobs.
You are also more likely to earn reasonable pay for your work compared to data entry. To land one of these freelance gigs in these job categories, you will need to maintain a portfolio of your work.
